Pretty In Pink: Giro d'Italia Misses Say Ciao To Road Bike Action
Servizio Numero Uno: Gli Antipasti Road Bike
Action is still on the trade show trail in 2008, this time at the 66th
edition of the EICMA show, otherwise known as the Milano Bike (and
Motorcycle show). Presented at the FieraMilano exhibition grounds just
outside the Lombard capital, show organizers have put the much
diminished show in two pavilions, one with bicycle exhibitors and
another with a 200m. board track velodrome hosting the Milano Six-Day
race
Zapata (in pink cap below) snaps the action at the Milano 6-Day
and a new for 2008 1 kilometer indoor / outdoor mountain bike test
course. Despite the worldwide economic difficulties, many major Italian
brands continue to be optimistic about 2009 sales, albeit more
cautiously than before the worldwide economic crisis threw a spanner in
the gears of the high-end road bike market.

Go for the gold: Lance Armstrong and Ivan Basso will battle for this Giro d'Italia trophy next May
Giro d’Italia: With the
upcoming 100th anniversary of the Giro d’Italia slated for May 2009,
there was a lot of excitement in the Giro booth at EICMA Milano. Plenty
of top riders stopped by for live chat sessions with the tifosi, the
shining gold Giro winners trophy was on display as well a special bike
to commemorate the Giro Centenario (100th anniversary). Road Bike
Action spoke to former rider Andrea Peron, who works with RCS, the
Italian media group that is owner of the Giro. “We are really excited
about next year’s Giro”, explained the likeable Peron, who speaks
perfect English from his years at Team Motorola and from his ranch in
Steamboat Springs, Colorado. “With the comeback of 2006 Giro winner
Ivan Basso and the presence of Lance Armstrong in his first Giro
d’Italia, we know that next years Giro d’Italia will be something
special. Plus we have prepared a really great course for the race.”
