ASK RBA: ASK RC: TIRE PRESSURE PART 2
May 24, 2010

I read your piece on proper tire pressure and was wondering if the same was true for tubular tires?

– Aaron

Tubulars, due to their rounded carcass, can roll smoothly over rough pavement at higher pressures than clinchers. I suggest higher pressures: 120 to 140 psi for 22/23-millimeter tubulars for riders who run clinchers at 100 to 120 psi – Higher still for tubular riders above 180 pounds. Watch the manufacturer’s recommended pressures, however as some ratings are quite low. Most good quality tubulars are rated at 200 psi.
