STAGE 3: POZATTO PUMPED, NEXT STOP UNCERTAIN
July 7, 2008

Liquigas rider Fillippo Pozatto was thinking like Oakland Raiders boss Al Davis when he followedhis former Mapei U23 teammate Fabian Cancellara’s attack in the final kilometer in Saint-Brieuc yesterday. “I just have to win (baby)”, Pippo told Road Bike Action this morning at the cool, windy Stage 3 start in Saint-Malo. Pozatto won a Tour stage in Saint-Brieuc four years ago with Fassa Bortolo, but the pressure is on for the 26 year Italian talent to come up with a big win this season, atleast another stage win at the Tour De France.

“I tried to get across to Cance but ended up with nothing. There was a headwind and I bridged and waited a second but (Cance) slowed and I got swarmed. I was hoping for the chance to do something in these first few days at the Tour and so never say never,” joked Pozatto. Rumors are flying around which team will have the Italian in 2009. There is interest from Tinkoff / Gazprom, but nothing concrete has been decided. However, it looks like Liquigas may decide not to renew Pozatto for 2009 rather than pay his large salary, but there is also major interest in the classy Italian rider from CSC-Saxo Bank.
