STAGE 2: ERIK ZABEL'S TEAM MILRAM COLNAGO EPS PROTOTYPE
Road Bike Action Tech Edit staff
July 6, 2008
Road Bike Action
spied Erik Zabel's Team Milram Colnago EPS prototype at Stage 1 of the 2008 Tour De France. Milram diesse Vittorio Algeri told us that "this is a special bike that Zabel wanted made up; it's the same colors as his first Colnago twenty years ago." But Zabel's Colnago EPS proto is decidedly not your fathers Oldsmobubble.
Road Bike Action
has learned that Colnago's new EPS (for Extreme Power Super) has completely new tubing and lugs, built with ultra high and high modulus unidirectional composite with a 3K twill finish.
Sources have also told
Road Bike Action
that the Colnago EPS uses a all-new Multi Shape Tubing-3PRS System with tubes that have a a conical toptube with a 40mm diameter at the headtube that tapers to a 35mm diameter at the seat tube lug, while the Colnago EPS downtube has a constant diameter of 44mm from headtube to bottom bracket, with four 3PRS internal reinforcing ribs. Erik Zabel's Team Milram Colnago EPS prototype features an all-new Colnago Headset System or C-HS, a special, semi-integrated headset with 1-1/8" bearings in the top race and 1-1/4" bearings in the bottom race for extra headtube ridgity and more steering stability and precision.
An all-new Colnago NewStar carbon fibre fork features improved steering & stability thanks to the new fork blade shape, maximum strength to absorb shocks and blend smoothly with the new 1-1/4" diameter of the bottom of the headtube.
