FEATURES: SCOTT TEAMS WITH GREENEDGE
June 6, 2011

Although it's been the stuff of rumors for months, Scott Bicycles finally made it official today - they have teamed with the Aussie based GreenEDGE effort to once again be a contender in the Euro road wars. The team won't hit the road until the 2012 season, but GreenEDGE showed off their new Foil and Plasma 3 team bikes today.

"A strong Australian flavor comes through in the look of the bike with the famous green-and-gold colours featured on a predominately white frame. According to Scott Sports Vice President Pascal Ducrot, the frame design and construction rather than color are what truly set the bikes apart.

“On the bike, the elements are always against you with the wind trying to slow you, or a climb trying to break you. For many years, time trial bikes such as the Plasma 3 have reaped the benefits of aerodynamics to beat the wind. Now our Scott Foil maximizes the use of that technology on a road bike to get an advantage against the elements and the competition”, Ducrot says.

“Our aero science engineers have gone to great lengths to get the aerodynamics of the Foil right. Given the greater range of variables in a road race, that aren’t a factor in a time trial, it wasn’t a simple case of replicating a time trial bike design on a normal road bike.

“Plus a lot of the aero shapes for bikes are based on models and ratios created for airplanes by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), but these ratios do not necessarily apply to bikes because of the much lower speeds. So our engineers have developed specific tube shapes that maximise aerodynamic efficiency at lower speeds. This development is called F01 Aero technology.”

Importantly the bikes meet the regulations set out by the sport’s governing body, the UCI.

Shayne Bannan, GreenEDGE General Manager, said the Scott Foil strikes the right balance of the three key elements of stiffness, weight and aerodynamics to create the perfect bike.

“The fewer watts, or the least amount of energy, a rider needs to produce to go at the speed of the peloton the fresher he’ll be at the crucial part of a race, which highlights how important it is to have the best bike available,” Bannan said.

“We’re confident that the Scott Foil and Plasma 3 are the best bikes available and will give our team an edge in a sport where every little advantage counts.”

The Scott Foil will be in stores in the coming weeks, for more information: Scott Foil.
