FELT DA RECEIVES UCI APPROVAL
Felt Bicycles is proud to announce the UCI’s official authorization of the Felt DA Time Trial/Triathlon frameset for UCI races. The UCI’s new frame authorization process guarantees the DA frameset to be UCI legal and will be documented on each frame with the UCI’s new seal of race-legal approval. Graphic incorporation of the new UCI seal will be a running change and customers can expect to see these on DA’s later in the year.
“The official certification of the 2011 DA TT/Tri frame under the new UCI qualification process once again demonstrates Felt Bicycles’ continued dedication to building the world’s fastest UCI legal bikes,” said Felt director of engineering, Jeff Soucek. “We are pleased to be one of the first manufacturers granted the new approval and we look forward to supplying our athletes and customers with the DA frameset.”
The Felt DA was developed by Felt engineers utilizing CFD software technology coupled with years of carbon fiber design, wind tunnel development and world-class race experience. In 2011, the DA will be ridden by multiple World Champions in time trials and triathlons throughout the world.
MEANWHILE, OVER IN THE SCOTT CAMP
Scott Sports is proud to announce that The International Cycling Union’s (UCI) has officially authorized the PLASMA 3 Time Trial/Triathlon frameset for use in UCI races. The Plasma 3 is one of the first bikes of 2011 to bear the UCI approval sticker on the production frame. This label guarantees to Scott Sports’ athletes and consumers that the Plasma 3 2011 fulfills all UCI regulations.
Scott opened a dialog with the UCI to clarify the situation on road bike regulations for its athletes and consumers. “For many years we have been pushing for such a validation process and we are glad that the UCI has decided to go this way. We are in favor of this process and will support it whenever we can.” says Vice president Pascal Ducrot. The sticker system is designed to give race officials an easy way to check all frames and forks comply with the UCI's latest technical regulations as set out in the governing body's new approval protocol.
Scott Aero Science engineers communicated closely with UCI authorities from the time the first Plasma 3 prototype was made in 2009. This was a crucial part of the process in creating the fastest possible Time Trial/Triathlon frameset for the consumer market that would also stay within UCI competition guidelines. “We are proud that we made it through the approval process early in the season so that we are now able to offer the answers that our athletes and consumers need, and show them that our bike meets the UCI’s qualifications.” says Scott Sports’ EU road marketing coordinator Lionel Girardin.
About the UCI Approval:
To be approved by the UCI, frames and forks (and later other components such as clothing) have to be sent to the UCI's approval lab. Manufacturers have to submit tech drawings and must subsequently supply the actual frames, one of each size.
