Over the weekend, Specialized Bicycles unveiled their 2011 line of
performance road bikes. Everything from the Transition Tri bike to the
top-of-the-line Tarmac SL that Alberto Contador will be aboard for the
upcoming Tour de France was introduced. Besides the bikes Specialized was also proud to show off a wide range of new products, including the radical Prevail helmet.
Along with a note from Specialized founder Mike Sinyard, take a look at the new Tarmac and hold your breath just a bit more as we unveil the rest of the line in coming days.
,
Fellow Cyclist, When I started Specialized 36 years ago, it was with a focus on the rider’s need for technically advanced products that provide true performance benefits. It’s still this way today; we think you will find that in our 2011 road line-up there are several significant new products that truly improve the riding experience. We have developed these products with a focus on the ride and the rider, but also through some of our fundamental beliefs.
We believe that smoother is faster, and the family here at Specialized couldn’t be more excited about Fabian Cancellara’s recent win at the Paris Roubaix! A win at that level is always a thing of beauty, but it’s even more distinguished by the fact that Fabian was competing in his first race aboard the new Roubaix, on which he worked so hard with our team of engineers and designers to develop. Three consecutive years of “Hell of the North” victories aboard a Roubaix confirms our belief that smoother is faster.
We believe that riders should be one with their bikes. This is how the ergonomically designed and scientifically tested Body Geometry products and BG FIT were pioneered, and why they deliver real world benefits of increased power, efficiency and comfort, while reducing fatigue and the chance of injury.
We also believe in women’s products leading the industry in technology. Our women’s bikes like the all-new Ruby are not only leading in the women’s category, but include engineering and fabrication technology that leads all endurance road bikes – for men or women.
Specific product highlights include: • The smoothest, fastest, lightest Endurance Road bike ever: the new Roubaix SL3 (batteries not included!) • A totally revolutionized Allez that delivers more performance to more people than ever before • The Ruby – which will be the benchmark endurance road bike for women – delivers vertical compliance, light weight and confidence-inspiring geometry without comparison • The fastest non draft-legal triathlon offerings on the planet with the “too fast for the UCI” Shiv and the startlingly fast Transition • A shoe line that is without equal, including the S-Works Road Shoe with full BG benefits, the lightest mechanical closure shoe ever
 • The new Prevail helmet is definitively the best complete performance
helmet ever, based on weight, cooling, comfort and aerodynamic
advantage
As you will soon see, there are even more awesome products in the 2011 line. We hope you agree that the work our team has done will make a difference in the way that all riders enjoy this great sport.
Sincerely, Mike Sinyard Founder and President
THE 2011 TARMAC LINE Models Include: S-WORKS TARMAC SL3 LIMITED / SW SL3 OSBB FRAMESET / S-WORKS TARMAC SL3 RED & DA & FRAMESET / TARMAC SL3 PRO RED & DA & FRAMESET / TARMAC SL3 EXPERT / TARMAC SL2 COMP / TARMAC SL2 ELITE

Driven by speed and the thrill of competition, these diehard riders and racers won’t settle for anything less than the lightest, stiffest, and fastest bikes on the road—whatever it takes to secure the win. Whether it’s a Grand Tour or city-limit sprint, these athletes ride hard and fast, enjoying every minute they can make the competition (or their friends) suffer.
RIDER BENEFITS * Highest stiffness-to-weight ratio and lightest complete module on the market. *Pro Tour-proven speed, efficiency, and handling (same frameset ridden by Astana and Saxo Bank) thanks to completely optimized FACT IS carbon frame * Greater steering precision via tapered 1-1/8” to 1-1/2” head tube/steerer tube, plus all-new carbon fork on S-Works models that offers even more lateral stiffness * Accessible race-ready performance with all models using trickle-down technology from S-Works SL3 or SL2 frames.
FACT IS 11R CARBON FRAME
What: High modulus carbon frame made from our most advanced carbon construction method. Why: Gives our Tarmac the highest stiffness-to-weight ratio on the market, which makes for an absurdly light and fast bike. How: Divides frame into four monocoque sections—with carbon fibers running continuously from tube to tube within each section—for more precise optimization of tubes shapes, sizes, and joints.
TRICKLE-DOWN TECHNOLOGY What Entire Tarmac family borrows technologies from the high-end, Pro Tour-winning SL3 and SL2. Why: Increases performance and overall value in every Tarmac we make. Allows all riders to enjoy technology exclusively found on S-Works level bikes just a couple years prior. How: Our Pro and Expert level bikes use the same SL3 construction as our S-Works models, but feature a different carbon layup. The Comp and Elite bikes share technology like triangulated seatstays, even using the same molds as our SL2 frames.
SL3 CONSTRUCTION
What Performance-optimized frame design, featuring innovative structures like our proprietary one-piece chainstay/BB, internal ribbing, and hollow carbon dropouts and headset cups. Why: Optimizes weight and stiffness in every part of the frame for greater acceleration, efficiency, and handling. How: The one-piece chainstay/BB design resists deflection under extreme pedal loads for improved power transfer. Internally raised ribs at the BB and head tube use optimized fiber alignment to increase stiffness. And hollow dropouts and headset cups cut weight to a minimum.
 IT'S TIME TO RIDE!
