Stevens is one of the largest bicycle manufacturers in Germany and will be available in the US starting in 2010. One of the most striking bikes in their 2010 line up is the Volt time trial bike. The Volt features a sloping top tube design, rear mounted front brake, and internal cable routing.
Tucked away at the far end of the convention center was what might possibly be the ultimate urban bike. The Swiss Biomega features a carbon fiber frame and fork, disc brakes and seven speed internal rear hub. The Biomega isn't cheap with prices ranging from $6000 to $10,000 depending on components.
Van Dessel is putting the famous Country Road Bob out to pasture and replacing it with the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot The Whiskey Tango Foxtrot features a steel frame with retro styled curved seatstays that extend all the way to the head tube. The frame is designed with disc brakes to allow the use of 700c or 29" wheels and tires depending on the riders intended use. Because the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot keeps the same geometry as the beloved Country Road Bob, it can be configured with either a flat or drop bar. An eccentric bottom bracket allows for the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot to be setup as single speed or multi-speed bike.
Lapierre showed up with a new 14.6 pound road bike. The new Xelius 9000
features a high-modulus unidirectional carbon frame and is mated to
Dura Ace 7900 components. Lapierre rounds out the new bike with Dura
Ace carbon/aluminum tubeless wheels. The Xelius 9000 will retail for
for $6499
Serotta had on display their MeiVici AE. The MeiVici AE is a custom built full carbon fiber aero frameset. The MeiVici features a seat tube angle-specific rear wheel cut out and aero seatpost for better aerodynamics and to reduce weight. The MeiVici AE also features Serotta's first integrated fork system with a tapered oversized steered tube utilizing a 1 1/8" upper and 1 1/2" lower bearing system. The MeiVici AE is available with custom geometry and paint options.
LAS was showing off a striking white version of their Victory helmet that features carbon inserts. The carbon inserts add structural support and help disperse impact forces in the event of a crash. Other nice touches on the new Victory Supreme are elevated LAS logos and the addition of a round retro hat box style carrying case. The Victory Supreme with carbon inserts will run between $50 and $60 more than a standard Victory.
Reynolds has teamed up with Paul Lew to create the new RZR wheels. The
RZR wheels are constructed using unidirectional, high-modulus carbon
fiber with 46-millimeter deep rim, and boron placed at strategic points
to increase strength and performance.. The rear hub features two
flanges on the drive to disperse torsional loads and reduce tension on
the spokes. The RZR weighs sub 900-grams and will retail for $6000.00
Smith had their new V90s at Interbike. The V90s are light weight at
only 25-grams and feature interchangeable lenses. The lenses are
available in two styles, the standard V90 and V90 Max which features a
larger lens profile for more coverage. Soon to be released is a nose
piece mounted prescription insert for those that require corrective
lenses.
Lazer came to Vegas with a gold painted Tardis time trial helmet. Lazer
first showed a prototype Tardis at last year's show and it is now in
full production. A unique feature to the Tardis is a rubber covered
port on the top of the helmet that allows the rider to pour water into
the helmet for cooling.
Chrome continues to expand their apparel line. Recently they introduced a new line urban riding shoes and at Interbike they released the Vanya, a pair of women's specific riding knickers. The Vanya's share many of the same features as Chrome's popular Light Weight Shins men's knickers but with a female specific cut.
