This past weekend Specialized held the global launch of their 2010 road line outside Salt lake City, Utah. Road Bike Action was on hand and now takes a look at some the 2010 Specialized products that are debuting at the Tour de France.
S-Works Road Shoe
For 2010 the S-Works Road shoe is completely designed to be
lightest production shoe with a mechanical closure system. (225-grams
in size 42) The closure system now features two independent Boa dials
with replaceable monofilament lace to provide separate fit zones. The
top dial adjusts the ankle and heel down closure, while the bottom dial
adjusts the arch and fore foot. The upper part of the shoes is
constructed from a water resistant mircomatrix material and has a
heavily vented tongue for increase ventilation. The sole of the S-Works
Road is constructed using Specialized’s Fact 12.0 carbon fiber
utilizing a torsion box design to increase sole stiffness. This design
also allows for a minimal foot to axle distance of only 6.5-
7-millimters depending on insole height. Specialized completes the
S-Works Road with a three bolt cleat pattern and replaceable heel tread.
TT2 Aero Helmet Used in Europe for the past couple of seasons, the TT2 has long been one of the most sought after time trial helmets and for 2010 it will finally be made available to the public. The TT2 was designed in the wind tunnel to reduce drag, yet still features Specialized’s 4th dimension cooling system. The 4th dimension system features a large intake port in the front, internal air channels and four exit ports along the back. The TT2 will be available in XS/S and M/L sizes.
S-Works SL Crankset
Like the standard S-Works Crankset the SL is constructed using
Specialized’s hollow FACT SL carbon crank arms. What’s new is the
addition of a FACT carbon fiber spider and lighter aluminum chainrings
that drop the weight to only 597-grams. The crankarms, which are
available in 170, 172.5, and 175-millimeter lengths, are connected via
an oversized alloy spindle and Hirth coupling interface. The spindle
spins on 42-millimeter ceramic bearings and is designed to be BB30
compatible. The new carbon spider and lightweight chainrings will be
available separately in both compact and standard versions.
Toupé SL Carbon Saddle The Toupé SL Carbon is likely to found under several Saxo Bank and Quick Step riders as the peloton hits the mountains. For 2010 Specialized upgraded the Toupé saddle with the addition of oversized carbon fiber seat rails and a carbon fiber saddle base. The new Toupé SL carbon will still feature Specialized’s patented Body Geometry design with medium rated ultra light padding, and micromatrix cover. While official weights for the Toupé SL Carbon have not been released it will be lightest Body Geometry saddle Specialized has ever produced.
Romin SL Saddle Also new for 2010 is the Romin SL Road and Multi-sport saddle. The Romin features hollow titanium seat rails and is designed to improve blood flow when the rider is leaned forward in an extreme position such in the drops or aerobars. In order to accomplish this the Romin has a slightly raised back that puts the rider in a more forward power transfer position. The Romin, like the Toupé SL Carbon features Specialized patented Body Geometry design with medium rated ultra light padding, and micromatrix cover.
