FEATURES: A DAY AT THE LIDO: TIME TRIAL PHOTO GALLERY FROM THE GIRO
May 20, 2009

Headed over to the Lido afforded a panoramic view of Venice and the Campanile rising from Piazza San Marco.

After hanging out with the Cannondale folks for the previous three days to indulge upon their 2010 SuperSix, on day four we got to take a field trip to the magical city of Venice to spectate at the opening team time trial stage for the Giro.

Having been to the Giro on three previous occassions, I have to say that attending this stage was by far the strangest since the only way to get to it was by boat. Although the popular theme was that the race was going to be held within the confines of one of the greatest urban jewels known to man (Venice proper), it was not. In actuality, the TT stage was being run just across the Grand Canal at the Lido, an equally historical spit of land (time wise), but by no means as magical or culturally significant,  that is the final land mass before you hit the Adriatic.

The teams had a new way to get to the start of the Giro opener.

Just moments after we arrived a huge ferry filled to the brim with team cars, bikes, riders and team personnel motored up to the main dock on the Lido. That was a pretty cool moment to see everybody dis-embark with many riders walking and signing autographs for the gaggle of fans.

Here's some of what we saw on that beautiful day that was marked with a big win by Team Columbia-Highroad...
