I am 5'6"-5'7" 150-pounds. I currently ride a Specialized Allez with a carbon fork and seatstays combined with Mavic R-Sys wheels and a Campy Record gruppo. After a long ride I feel beat up a bit. I am not a racer, nor do I want to be, but I love to go fast and far. I am looking at several bikes and I want someone to give me some feedback. My main goal is to have a fast, stiff, responsive, yet comfortable bike, not twitchy, and not pro stiff. Thank you so much for you help – Andrew
Before buying a new bike, try switching to a set of wheels with conventional stainless steel spokes – DT-Swiss, Easton or Zipp wheels are good options. The steel spokes will provide a smoother ride than the tubular carbon spokes of the R-Sys. A set of DT-Swiss, Easton or Zipp wheels will allow your Specialized to ride smoothly and still accelerate well. I rode with R-Sys wheels for six months and also experienced a harsh ride. I switched to Zipp 202 tubular wheels and it feels like I am riding an entirely different bike.
